module 5 Reflection Prompt 5: How has technology impacted or changed your classroom assessment and evaluation? Has your data collection methodology changed with technology? If technology has not impacted your assessment and evaluation, what would you like to change? Discuss technology and your own productivity and professional practice.
Description: I have seen evaluations and surveys evolve. I have seen the need for them change. I have seen the use of them change. I have seen how their results have been used to improve several areas of education and technology and I have seen where their results weren't used for anything. Our distance learning department at UA sends out several surveys. Historically, we have done paper surveys sent out in the mail as well as emailed out and asked to be printed, filled out and returned. The results were compiled by hand and evaluated. We now send out a link to an electronic evaluation. We then go online to obtain and assess the results.
Impact: We don't have in person contact with many of the users of the DL rooms. Sending out an electronic survey allows us to contact them and obtain feedback from their use and experience. We survey about the class offering, the tech assistants, the technology in the rooms, the user friendliness of the panel that runs the room, and an overall needs assessment for them and their student users. We have utilized several differently survey tools. We are setup to use the one that is the current tool supported by UA but if we find that it isn't adequate for our needs, we can always search for a new solution. I feel that our current electronic means of collecting survey data has far exceeded our original paper and pencil forms and the immediacy of it's results are beneficial. The graphs and charts that are able to be exported from these software are amazing and beneficial for meetings asking for more support physically and financially.
Intent: I intend to start utilizing a assessment of my student employees for several areas. There is a need to assess the training. I am currently trying to create an on-line training for my students to free up my time training them F2F. As this is a new creation, a assessment of their thoughts is essential. I will assess my content, my delivery and my assessment of their knowledge. I think that this will improve our productivity and the knowledge base of our employees to better assist the DL room users. With out any assessment of this new tool, I will not know if it is effective or beneficial.
